CONTEXT / PROBLEM INTRODUCTION
Yeah, we all know that local trains are one of the most convenient and affordable modes of transport.
But using the existing train app can be confusing, stressful and inconvenient. Journey planning, finding stations, understanding routes and getting important details require extra effort and time.
We came to wonder…
How can we improve the overall experience of planning and travelling using the Local Train App?
RESEARCH
• Outdated and cluttered design
• No structured navigation / no proper back option
• No quick search accessibility
• Poor information hierarchy — everything looks equally important
• Sudden redirects to external links without warning
• Photo-based logo that does not scale properly
• No “Nearest Station” feature
• Too many steps to complete simple actions
• Stressful countdown timers creating urgency
• No multilingual support
• Missing key information like starting platforms and gate numbers
• Inconsistent and unclear language tone

We found clarity, quick access and stress-free travel planning to be the most repeated expectations among users.
RESEARCH (continued)
The travel process roughly goes like:
Plan → Search → Get Route → Travel
While there are many small actions within these phases,
we learned that one of the most crucial aspects is:
⭐ Having clear, reliable and structured travel information.
MANAGEMENT
There are many transport and metro apps available,
but most of them struggle with:
• Limited information
• Poor hierarchy
• Desktop mindset design
• Complex usability
• Lack of real commuter-focused thinking
This creates unnecessary friction for users.
DESIGN
The redesigned navigation ensures a smooth and intuitive flow.
A back button is added, the structure is simplified, and high-priority features like Search and Nearest Station are placed prominently.
Less frequently used features are organised under secondary sections to reduce clutter.
The Journey / Route details page now provides:
• Clear station hierarchy
• Estimated travel time
• Fare details
• Number of stations
• Interchange clarity
• Platform indicators
• Gate numbers
All information is simplified, grouped, and visually prioritised so users can understand their journey at a glance.
With enhanced route planning and informative UI,
users can easily check journey details and travel confidently without stress.
Real-time clarity and structured guidance reduce confusion and uncertainty during travel.

A fresh and modern visual identity was created for the Local Train App.
Clean typography, a vector-based scalable logo, improved iconography and a simple colour system ensure a polished and consistent experience across the app.
Through multiple design iterations and deep understanding of commuter needs,
the Local Train App revamp focuses on delivering clarity, accessibility and convenience.
The journey doesn’t end here — continuous improvements and user feedback will keep shaping the experience to make commuting even better 🚆✨
